What is our WHY

We all know what we are doing. We all know how we are doing it, however, do we know why we are doing it?

Most people will wake up, travel to work, help their company to make money, earn some money themselves, return home, deal with personal life before going to bed, to repeat it again the next day.

Discovering your WHY will help you to make the right choices, find the right career, the right organisation; the right communities and relationships to be connected with. All of this will help to inspire you, allowing you to come home each day feeling fulfilled.

"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why" - Mark Twain

Finding your why?

How to determine your WHY isn't something that someone else can tell you. It's personally related to you, your experiences, who you are.

Some of the ways to discover this are by;

  • Thinking about why you wake up every day and do what you do.

  • Consider some of your past experiences in life and/or business where things seemed to be going perfect.

  • Think about the people you've helped.

  • Think about times when you were happy, joyful and/or felt complete.

  • What connects you with other people?

  • Never use other peoples WHYs as we each have our own WHYs for us to discover.

Discovering your WHY requires you to look inside yourself and to be completely open and honest. Often what we think of is actually just a consequence of our why and an example of this is making money.

Once you understand your WHY, you can then find your HOW and WHAT so much easier. These may not always be the same, they can alter, but they will always reflect your WHY.

Sharing with you my WHY

I believe there is no better way of sharing with you an example of someone's why than my own.

I consider myself a very driven person, focused on achieving the goals I set myself. I believe myself to be someone of good intentions, always ready to lend an ear when someone needs to talk, always ready to lend a hand if someone needs support.

It wasn't until last year that I decided to really look inside myself to find my WHY. To find my purpose. I looked back over my previous experiences, companies I have worked for, businesses and projects I have been involved in, personal relationships and interests.

What I discovered was I wanted something different to the standard life, the 9 to 5 job, the working for someone else. I wanted to be my own boss and create that level of freedom where I could work around my life, live my life the way I wanted, doing what I wanted when I wanted and not having to live my life around a job or missing out on important moments.

I also realised I wanted to do something that would allow me to help others, teach, coach, offer a helping hand and guidance if so desired. Several of those perfect, complete and happy moments I felt when I was either teaching or helping someone.

I know my WHY. I wake up with a focus with inspiration for the day ahead and feel fulfilled as the day comes to an end.

Find your WHY, find your purpose and make an impact on the world.

I hope this blog has had a positive effect on you. You have taken the time to read about my WHY and I would love to take some time to learn about yours. If you would like to share with me yours then you can email me at mail@marksclaxton.co.uk
